Clinique Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm

This would definitely qualify as one of those “YouTube made me buy it” products.  I was watching Ingrid Nilsen’s video “5 Steps for Clear Skin”.  This product caught eye because it literally melted her makeup off her face!

I decided to go to my local Belk and get a sample last weekend to give it a try.  I wear a lot of eye makeup (especially mascara) and sometimes it is a struggle to get everything off without being too harsh.  When I saw Ingrid’s mascara literally melt off, I knew I needed to try this product.  I used the sample for about a week and I was very impressed.

The cleansing balm is a solid that changes to an oil when you rub it between your fingertips and face.  Although it changes into an oil, it does not feel heavy or greasy.  It leaves you face feeling clean and makeup free.  After I use this to get off all the makeup from the day, I use my Mary Kay TimeWise Cleansing Bar to clean my skin.

The product retails for $29.00.  This is costly, however I think this will last me several months.  I also looked for a drugstore comparison to try out as well.  My online search results brought up the Pixie Nourishing Cleansing Balm, but it retails for $20.00.  I also found that NYX has a Stripped Off Cleansing Balm for $14.00.  If this one is similar that would be a great price savings.  However, there is no retailer near me that sales this product for me to try.  For now I will stick with Clinique and see how long it lasts.  I am still hoarding up gift cards from Christmas, so I only had to pay 96 cents out of pocket for this one from Belk!

Have you tried a cleansing balm??

Clinique Pep-Start Hydroblur Moisturizer

I received a sample of the Clinique Pep-Start Hydroblur Moisturizer in my February Sephora Play! box.

This is a combination primer/moisturizer from Clinique’s new pep-start range.  It primes your face blurring imperfections and creating a smooth surface for  your foundation, while moisturizing all day.  It also controls oil throughout the day, they say for eight hours.

This product feels very silky and moisturizing when applied to the face.  I have been using it in the mornings before applying my foundation.  One thing I do especially like, it cuts two steps down to one!  Anything that can save me time in the mornings, especially on work days, is a plus in my book.

I can feel that it creates a smooth, matte surface for my foundation.  My foundation lasts well throughout the day and I am not one to reapply anything throughout the day. However, I will say I also don’t have a big problem with excess oil on my face.

The cost is $29.50 for the biggest pot at 1.7oz.  I have seen worse in the terms of price and this is taking the place of two products.  Depending on how long this size lasts, I wouldn’t consider this price bad at all.  I have gotten several days out of my sample and still have quite a bit left.  It doesn’t take too much.

Has anyone else try this or anything else from their new pep-start range?  What are your thoughts?

Sunday Pampering

To get myself ready for the week ahead, I like to do a little pampering on Sundays.  Nothing too extravagant, just a few things to get relaxed.

20170129_180257-01.jpeg  On this snowy and cold Sunday I decided to use some moisturizing products.

If you would like to read more about my thoughts on these products, you can click on their names.

I have been reading the Tradd Street series by Karen White.  She just released the fifth book of the series this month.  I started reading the series back in October because it is a ghost story with a love story weaved in.  The main character, Melanie, is a successful realtor in Charleston, South Carolina with a big hidden talent…she can communicate with the dead.  I can’t wait to get through all the books to see what happens.  These are books that will keep you reading till the wee hours of the night.

Hot peppermint tea is one of my favorites!  At home I find myself drinking more hot tea than coffee.  It is super refreshing and perfect on this cold night.

Hope you enjoyed a look into my Sunday night.  Now to go get pampering….I may even paint my nails too!  What are some of the things you like to do to get ready for the week ahead?

Formula 10.0.6 Deep Down Detox Ultra-Cleansing Mud Mask

I purchased this mask a long time ago when I was struggling with breakouts.  It has since been setting in my cabinet.  I was trying to find something to help without breaking the bank.  Although at an affordable price, I have to say I found this mud mask was very disappointing.

I used this mask for several months without seeing any change in my skin or breakouts specifically.  I picked up this product because it said it was a detox mask that cleansed impurities for a clearer and brighter complexion.  I had high hopes that it would be the solution to my problem skin, but unfortunately it wasn’t.  After reading the  back, I noticed it specified it excelled at perfecting troublesome “young skin”. Maybe this could be why it did not work for me?

The mask did have a good consistency and felt good on the skin when applied.  It also had a pleasant orange scent.  And as I mentioned the price was very affordable at $6.99.  It just didn’t work for me.

If you have read my blog you know my favorite face mask of all time is the Shea Moisture African Black Soap Clarifying Mud Mask.  I really think it was the biggest factor in clearing up my skin.  You can read more about it here.

Facial masks are very popular these days.  Do you have a favorite that works best for you?

H2Ocean Piercing Aftercare Spray

I first found out about the H2Ocean spray when I got my tragus pierced last year.  Unfortunately, I had to take my tragus earring out but I still like to keep this stuff around for my lobe piercings.  I have always had a lot of problems out of my ear piercings.  There was even a time that I could not wear earrings at all!

Since recently purchasing this product again, I have been wearing earrings even in my second lobe piercing.  I hadn’t been keeping this around all the time because the only place I knew to get it was from my local tattoo shop and it is $15 per bottle.  Although good stuff, for 4 oz I thought that was a little much.  So I would only get it when piercings were to a point I had to have it.

After Christmas I was looking on Amazon and found a 2 pack of 4 oz bottles for only $18.  That is only $9 a piece and a savings of $6 per bottle.

To apply I spray a q-tip and wipe my piercings as well as the earring before putting them in.  I leave my earrings in my second lobe piercings all the time, so I will take the q-tip and wipe around the front and back.  Then I also take them out at least once a week to clean the jewelry good.  I use it every morning and night, but do use it more if needed.

The H2Ocean is a purified ocean salt water spray.  The ingredients include purified water, sea salt, lysozyme, and sodium citrate.  You can apply the solution 3 to 6 times a day as needed.  It is made especially to cleanse and help new body piercings to heal.  But it also works well for me to keep my piercings clean and free from any infection or irritation.

What do you use?  Have you ever used this product?  If so, what did you think?

Shea Moisture Argan Oil

Every since I received the Josie Maran 100 percent Argan Oil Light in one of my Allure beauty boxes, I have been hooked on using facial oil.  The only problem was the price of the Josie Maran at $16 for a 0.5 oz bottle.

Ever since I finished this sample, I have been on the lookout for a more affordable option.  I had mentioned the Shea Moisture brand as an option in my previous post here.  However, then I had found it on the GNC website but my local store did not have it in stock.  But to my surprise I found this exact product at Ulta this past weekend.  I had no idea they carried this brand.  I have had a great experience with the  African Black Soap Clarifying Mud Mask.  I use it at least twice a week and it helps keep my breakouts to a minimum.  Click here to read more about this mask.  This was a new Ulta store that had just opened not long ago and they actually had a whole section of Shea Moisture products from skin care to makeup.  I am curious to try some of their makeup products too.

The cost of the Shea Moisture Argan Oil at Ulta is comparable to GNC at $8.99.  I only paid a total of $3.13 for my bottle after my store coupon and cashing in my points!

My biggest concern with another brand was the way the oil would soak into the skin and whether it would feel heavy.  Since the Josie Maran sample I had was the light formula, I wasn’t sure if it would make a big difference.  I have been using the Shea Moisture everyday since I bought it on Saturday and really cannot tell a big difference.  The formula does feel a little thicker than the Josie Maran, but it still soaks into the skin well and I don’t find it to feel heavy.  I use one to two pumps, depending on if I mix it with my moisturizing lotion.

This product is also good for your hair and cuticles.  I am so glad I found this at Ulta for a great price!  Especially since it is wintertime and my skin, hair, and nails can use all the extra moisture they can get.

Do you use a facial oil in your normal routine?  If so, what is your favorite?

Benefit It’s Potent! Eye Cream

Back in October I purchased the Benefit It’s Potent! Eye Cream from Ulta.  I had been looking for a new eye cream since I had used up the rest of my sample of the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye.  I really liked this product, but not the price.  You can read my review about this product here.

I had been looking for a new eye cream for awhile, weighing my options between drugstore and high end.  I have found that eye creams are all expensive no matter the brand.  I considered the drugstore options I was looking at expensive when taking into consideration the amount of product you got.

To be honest I really hadn’t made up my mind what I was going to do until I found myself in Ulta one day and found a box set that included a full size It’s Potent! Eye Cream, the Triple Performing Facial Emulsion, and a $10 off a brow wax card.  The Benefit eye cream had been in my list of high end products to try so when I saw this deal I decided to jump on it.  The retail price of a full size It’s Potent! Eye Cream is $34.  The total cost of the box set was only $36, which I thought to be a very good price since the products in the box totaled $52.

20161231_110644-01.jpegI have already used the $10 off a brow wax.  The service is great and I am hooked!

I have been using this eye cream since the middle of October and have really seen some results.  I have never really had dark circles under my eyes, however, I do have some darkness in the inner corner.  I do believe this darkness has lightened since using this product.  My under eyes feel super hydrated.  Although the box does not claim this eye cream prevents wrinkles, my skin looks soft and smooth.  I only use this in my nightly routine.  It doesn’t take much at all to cover the area so even though 0.5 oz. doesn’t seem like a lot, it should last me for awhile.

What is your go to eye cream?  Have you tried It’s Potent!?
