Living Proof Full Dry Volume Blast

20170325_190803-01.jpeg

I received a this sample in my March Sephora Play! monthly subscription box.  Can I just say I really love this stuff?!  I have already used this entire sample!

This spray adds texture and a light hold to my hair which is what I love.  I want my style to stay all day, but I don’t want my hair to be stiff or sticky from hairspray.  This product does just that!

The smell of this is just amazing!  I would have to keep myself from spraying too much just to smell it.

Unfortunately, the price tag is a little steep.  A full size retails for $29.00.  To be honest, I don’t think I would spend that much on this product.  Not because it doesn’t work, but because I would go through it way too fast.  I can’t see giving $29.00 when I can get the same results, except for the amazing smell, from my Not Your Mother’s Double Take Dry Finish Texture Spray.  Not that the NYM smells bad, I just like the Living Proof better, but not enough to pay the price.

Half Up Messy Bun

I wear my hair the same every single day, down and curled.  The only time I ever wear my hair up is for Zumba class.  I have been wanting to play around with different looks, but when it comes down to it I usually choose sleep in the morning instead.

I read a blog post earlier this week by Emma on a step by step tutorial on how to do a messy bun.   I really like this look, especially since it doesn’t have to be perfect.  I thought I would give it a try yesterday morning for a change.  However, my hair isn’t long enough in the back to do a full up-do.  Here is my variation of a half up look for slightly shorter hair.

I really like this look and we definitely wear it again!  This makes me want to search Pinterest for some more up-dos I can try.

Anyone have any suggestions for more styles I could try to get me out of my hairstyle rut?

Dark Blonde and Caramel Balayage

I decided to go blonde…sort of.  Naturally I have very dark brown hair, but I have always wanted to go lighter.

This past weekend I got my nerve up to add more blonde!  My hairdresser used the balayage technique.  Since I already had some caramel pieces she added more darker blonde pieces and this was the result. I absolutely love it!!

I wanted to do the balayage look for two reasons.  First, my hair grows so fast that I would have to get it colored too often with highlights.  It starts to get way too expensive for me to justify. The second reason was my eyebrows.  I was self conscious that my eyebrows would look odd if my hair was too light since they are so thick and dark.

It is so much cheaper for me to dye my hair at home, but I wanted to do something different.  I am brave enough to mix my own color from Sally’s for an all over color to cover my gray, but would never attempt anything like this.  But if I can get away with only getting color a few times a year, I don’t think that is too bad.

Not Your Mother’s Hair

The Not Your Mother’s brand has a wide range of hair products.  The brand’s mission is to provide salon comparable products at affordable prices.  You can find them a your local discount department stores, drugstores, and even Ulta!  Out of this brand I have tried three styling products.

Beach Babe Texturizing Sea Salt Spray

This was my first purchase of this brand and my least favorite of the three.  I have tried this product several times to achieve those beach waves, but with no luck.  Unfortunately, this product only weighed my hair down and left it feeling sticky.  It could be because I naturally have very thick and heavy hair, but this product did not work for me at all.  The only positive thing I can say is it does smell good.  At $6.00 it is a good price, but it just did not work for me.

Clean Freak Refreshing Dry Shampoo

I normally wash my hair everyday, sometimes twice!!  But on occasion I will skip a day here and there.  When I do I will use this product to add some volume back to my roots and soak up the excess oil. I consider my hair to be fairly oily and this product works well.  It doesn’t have an amazing smell, but it is okay.  Compared to a Suave dry shampoo I tried once, it smells great!  I found this at my local Walmart for $4.74!  For that price, it’s a keeper!

Double Take Dry Finish Texture Spray

My absolute favorite!!  I have been wearing my hair in the messy wave look for awhile now.  I really wanted to try the Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray, but it was a bit out of my price range at $44.  I stumbled upon this at Ulta one day and thought I would give it a try.  Love it!  It adds texture without being sticky and has a medium hold that I can still run my fingers through.  It only costs $6.19!  Plus, Ulta will run BOGO sales quite often and it is eligible on their $3.50 off a $10 purchase coupon.  Very rarely do I ever pay full price!!
