Play! by Sephora: January

This month’s box was Beauty, Set, Go.  A few products to get the year started off right.

First is the Tarte FRXXXTION Stick, which is a gel in a stick.  It transforms from a solid gel to a cleansing lather when applied to a damp face.  To use simply apply in a circular motion and then continue massaging into skin with fingers to cleanse.  The pamphlet also says  you can use this product as a 10-minute mask to purify and revitalize your skin.  I am excited to give this a try.  I think it would be great for traveling.

The Farmacy Honey Potion Renewing Antioxidant Hydration Mask is amazing!  I used this product the night I received my box in the mail.  I have heard and read that honey is great to use since it is a natural antioxidant, but I have never given it a try.  I have used this mask several times and love the way it makes my skin feel.  It hydrates my skin giving me a healthy glow.  I love it!  It contains a ingredient called Echinacea GreenEnry.  According to the pamphlet, this is a patent protected plant that is used to promote balanced, healthy-looking skin by soothing inflammation and adding radiance.  It also is something you won’t find in any other products.  Actually, the Farmacy headquarters exclusively grows their own Echinacea GreenEvy.

I have been so interested in QUAI hair products, but have not gotten to try any yet.  One of my favorite YouTubers, Estee Lalonde, raves about their products a lot in her videos.  I would love to try their texturizing spray.  This month I received the OUAI Treatment Masque.  This is a mask to help damaged hair.  It is formulated to not only help damaged hair, but to strengthen hair to help against future damage.  I am looking forward to trying this product.  I am lucky to have healthy hair, but I am hard on it.  Between dying it and using heat on it practically everyday, I need something to help keep it healthy.

I had never heard of the Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey.  Although the pamphlet says it is a cult-classic, this was the first I had ever seen or heard of it.  Looking at the product you would think it would be super dark, however, it glides on as a sheer color on the lips.  For me I feel like it really enhances the color of my own lips just giving them a tad bit of color and a glossy finish.  This is a great everyday almost lipstick and an ideal product to keep in your purse at all times.

I am rather picky when it comes to perfume, so I feel like I am really hitting it lucky with these perfumes samples lately.  The Tory Burch Love Relentlessly is a wonderful scent.  Most of the time I tend to stay away from floral scents because they are usually too strong for me.  However, this one is perfect.  It is very delicate and not overpowering at all.

I don’t believe I have ever received a foundation sample in my boxes yet.  This month I got the AmorePacific Color Control Cushion Compact Broad Spectrum SPF 50+.  I have not tried a cushion foundation and look forward to this one.  Advertised as a weightless foundation this sounds like my kind of product.

This month’s bag makes me think of the beach with the mesh back.  It would be perfect to carry small item in your gym bag.

Play! by Sephora: December

This month’s theme was “The Partygoers”.  A few essentials for those holiday parties.

The Bobbi Brown Smokey Eye Mascara is great!  I have been using this for about a week and love the shape of the brush.  I fans my lashes out beautifully without any clumping.  It gives great volume and the jet black color sets off any look.  After I finish this sample I am going to keep the brush and use it in my drugstore formula and see if I get the same effect.

I have always wanted to try the Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray.  I used this Christmas Eve and Christmas Day because I knew both would be long days.  Both days my makeup looked basically like it did that morning.  My highlighter, blush, and contour stayed in place all day.

The Make Up For Ever Step 1 Equalizer Smoothing Primer feels amazing.  The texture is very silky and makes your face feel so smooth.

The Sephora Collection Cream Lip Stain in Always Red was perfect for Christmas.  This lip stain doesn’t feel drying at all and delivers a beautiful red color that lasts.  One tip that the pamphlet suggested, and I do, is to use a lip scrub and balm before applying to help the lip stain apply smoothly.  I have been using the Mary Kay lip scrub, click here to read more about it.

This is the only product in this month’s box I have not tried yet.  The Drybar Bay Breeze Hydrating Shot is a shot of moisture for your hair especially during the winter month’s.  With the active ingredients of apricot kernel oil and sage leaf extract, this spray is supposed to provide long lasting (one full week) conditioning for soft and silky hair.

I was so excited when I smelled the perfume for this month.  Another perfume with woody notes which is my favorite.  The Elizabeth and James Nirvana Bourbon perfume is a blend of vanilla bourbon and spice wood with a slight floral note.

Love this bag!  “I take the Party with me” which is perfect for this time of year and love that the bag is black and pink this time.

This has been my favorite box so far!

Play! by Sephora: November

This month’s box is “Best in Glow” to help battle the dullness winter weather can bring to your skin.

The Cover FX Illuminating Primer helps prep for your foundation while adding a glow underneath.  This primer is good for sensitive skin and has anti-inflammatory ingredients.  It also contains an ingredient called, Gatuline Radiance Illuminate and Refine, which is a natural ingredient that helps improve skin’s clarity.  I have tried several primers and haven’t found one yet that I am in love with, so I am excited to try this.

Caudalie Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet contains ingredients from grape vines that provide antioxidants.  According to the pamphlet, this moisturizer hydrates while calming any redness.

One of the products I am most excited about in this box is the Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Rose Gold.  I have heard a lot about this brand on YouTube, but have never tried anything.  The rose gold color is beautiful!  It is supposed to blend easily but last all day.  My cousin said she swatch it on her arm when she received her box and it was still there the next morning!  It felt very cream and smooth when I swatched it on my arm.

The lip product this month is the Sephora Collection Ultra Shine Lip Gel in Pin Up Pink.  Lately I have been more into the matte lipsticks, but I can always give this Emily.  If you are wondering who Emily is, you can find out who she is by clicking here.  Since I may give it away, I didn’t want to swatch it.  But the color looks like a really pretty bright pink.  I think this would look good on Emily with her blonde hair and blue eyes.

This month’s perfume is Marison Margiela “Replica” By the Fireplace. Finally a perfume I like!  Although not for everyone, I love the woody and smokey scent of this perfume.  It reminds me of a candle my husband and I used to get at Bath and Body Works called Firewood.

The second product in this box I am most excited about is the GlamGlow Gravitymud Firming Treatment.  I have heard so many people talk about the GlamGlow products and how awesome they are, but I have never tried any.  This treatment is actually a peel off mask that is supposed to make the skin look more toned and firm.  One tip given is to avoid using water to remove the mask to allow the treatment to soak into the skin.  I am excited to give this treatment a try and see the results.  I think I may give it a try Thanksgiving Day and see if anyone notices.

This month’s bag is super cute with the slogan “the Glow-Getters”.  These bags are perfect for carrying my pens and markers for my planner in my bag.  I gave my friend one to use too and plan to give this one to another friend.  I am glad I have friends that share the need to color code everything.

Play! by Sephora: October

This month’s box is “The Cool Cut”.  These are products that aren’t mainstream yet, but have been chosen as “ones to watch”.

First up is the Smashbox Always on Matte Liquid Lipstick in the shade Driver’s Seat.  If you have learned anything about me yet, it is that I have a weakness when it comes to lip products.  But I think most of us do.  As soon as I opened the box I had to apply this and see what it looked and felt like.  I think the color is great for fall.  The formula isn’t too drying and is comfortable.

A second lip product in the same box, this is my month!  Next is the Nudestix Intense Matte Lip + Cheek Pencil in the shade Belle.  I have wore this on my lips the past two days and love it!  It is the perfect nude shade.  I have always been a fan of lip pencils.  Almay used to make one years ago that I literally wore everyday.  This will be a regular in my makeup bag for sure.  The insert says it is supposed to last six hours.  If you don’t eat in those six hours, I would agree.  Otherwise, I would go with more like four or five.  I doubt I will use this for a cheek color, but I do think it would be a pretty shade to add a little color.

Too Cool for School Egg Mellow Cream is a 5-in-1 cream from South Korea.  It can work as a serum, priming moisturizer, eye cream, neck cream, and sleeping mask.  As the name may suggestion, this product contains egg extracts.  It also contains collagen fiber.  As a result, this product claims to tighten the appearance of pores, keep skin looking healthy and firm, and encourage the production of collagen.  I pumped some out on my finger and it was yellow in color and had a slightly sticky consistency.  I am not sure about this one.  I know eggs are supposed to be great for your skin, but to be honest I just can’t fight off the thought of raw eggs in a bottle.

For those with sensitive skin, the next product is a non-abrasive peel that is also fragrance free.  The Skin Inc. Pure Revival Peel is a gentle peel that removes dead skin cells and is gentle enough to use two or three times a week.  The active ingredient is called AC-11, which is found from cat’s claw that grows in the Amazon.  When this ingredient is applied to the skin it helps to gently exfoliate and care for damaged skin from the environment.  I am excited to give this product a try!  I have never used a peel before, but prefer the sound of this to the harsh exfoliate creams I have used in the past.  Skin Inc. is a Japanese brand.

The Verb Leave-In Mist will moisturize, detangle, and smooth your hair.  I am lucky in that my hair seems to be fairly healthy.  But anything to make my hair shiny is more than welcomed.  This product is also supposed to protect from heat styling, which I need.  Currently I don’t use anything and use a straightening iron at least five to six days a week.  The directions are to apply it to towel dried hair before styling.  It is getting that time of year were I get a lot of static in my hair, especially in the wintertime. Hopefully, this will help head off any static cling before I even start blow drying.

The scent this month is the Tom Ford Orchid Soleil.  As the name suggests, it has a very floral scent.  It is also very strong!  I used two sprays to test it out and it was almost too much.  Not sure this is the scent for me, but I think my mom might like it.

Last but not least is the bag.  This month’s slogan, “Lipstick and Chill”.  Absolutely love it!

Play! by Sephora: September

I got my first ever Play! by Sephora beauty subscription in the mail this week!  This is a monthly subscription Sephora offers for $10 a month.  Judging by it’s contents this month, it well worth the price!  This month’s theme was “The Unbasic Basics”.

Everything came packaged in a little bag with a cute saying on the front, “This is not (just) a lipstick.”  Love it!

Below is what I got this month and I have also included the retail price at Sephora for each:

Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Night Cap Overnight Perfector –  $28 for 4oz

I am so excited to try my first hair mask!  This is an overnight solution you apply to your roots down to the ends, focusing on the tips of your hair.  It is supposed to leave your hair soft and shiny for a full week.  It also says that it is a fast drying solution so there is no need to sleep with your hair wrapped in a towel or anything.  Oh, and it smells so good too.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Clear Brow Gel –  $22

I was so excited when I saw this was in this month’s box!  I have just recently started using clear brow gels to keep my eyebrows in place.  I am very lucky in that I do not have to fill in my brows since they are so dark and full on their own.  But I wanted to start using a clear brow gel to keep them in place throughout the day.  I can’t wait to compare this high end product to the two drugstore products I have been using for the past few weeks.  I smell another blog post…stay tuned for that one.

Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper –  $20

I have purchased this product before a couple of times.  However, I have not tried it again since finally figuring out how to do a wing liner.  I will be curious to see what I think about this product since doing a wing is so much easier for me now compared to when I was using this before.  However, I doubt it will take the place of my e.l.f. liquid liner that finally got me where I am today with my wings.  The price difference alone is insane!

Sephora Collection Rouge Shine Lipstick in Love Spell –  $12.50

I love this color!  It is so ironic I got this in the mail today because I was just thinking this morning that I needed a pale pink lipstick.  This is a great MLBB shade.  The color is very subtle and just give a hint of pink with a little bit of shine.

Ole Henriksen Sheer Transformation –  $65 for 3oz

This is a moisturizer good for all skin types.  It is oil-free, which I really like.  It is made to soften, brighten, and even out skin tone.  It also says it can double as a makeup primer!  It is quite pricey, but I am excited to give it a try.

Atelier Cologne Sud Magnolia – $125 for 3.3oz

Shew, that is a hefty price tag and to be honest I really don’t know if I like it.  It has a very flowery scent and although I love the smell of flowers I normally do not wear floral colognes or perfumes.  I normally go for the more clean scents.  I was watching the unboxing Sephora uploaded to YouTube and the guy said this was a cologne because of it’s citrus undertones.  I was like the girl in the video and always thought cologne meant for men.  Learned something new!  However, I do not pick up on any citrus undertones….just floral.  Who knows though, maybe it will grow on me.  But at this price if it does, I will just have to enjoy this small sample.

I hope you enjoyed this look into my first Sephora beauty subscription.  I am really pleased and excited about the products I received!  What do you think about this month’s products?  If you have used any of these products and have any advice please let me know.
